Found Objects #4: "Finding Hope Part II" in print!
I'll be bringing copies to MoCCA fest next weekend.
After spending many nights and weekends working on the story and art for Finding Hope: Part II, I’m thrilled to bring copies to MoCCA Fest in NYC next weekend, where I’ll be tabling with other talented visual storytellers at the MFAVN tables (112-117)!
In this part of the story, I travel to New Hampshire to learn more about Hope's life before the war. Hope’s old letters and diary entries about her solo journey to Alaska remind me of my own venture to Peru after high school. As I delve deeper into Hope's back story, I am confronted with complicated history that leaves more questions than answers. (I’ve documented some of this research in a prior post titled, Photos from Alaska.)
This is a 32-page comic, printed in full-color on 100 lb. archival satin paper with a matte laminate cover. For those who are interested in reading the story, and will not be at MoCCA, I am currently selling copies in my (revived) Etsy shop . You can also find copies of Part I there.
Although I experience infinite joy from making comics and illustrations, it can often be a long and lonely process. The process of serializing this story and sharing it at comics events has motivated me to keep working on it. I hope to spend time working on Part III this spring and summer!
Below is a spread from the book.
The centerfold.
I’ll also be bringing some of my other work to MoCCA, as well as the anthology, This is Real: Stories Drawn with Strangers, that students from my Graphic Memoir class created.
Will you be at MoCCA Fest? Share your table # in the comments!
So excited to read Part II, Sarah!! Congratulations...I love how you've patiently uncovered and retraced Hope's steps and your own.
