What is Found Objects?

When I moved back to Maine in the summer of 2022, all I needed to complete my apartment was a large wooden drawing table. Days later, while running, I spotted the exact table I’d envisioned on the side of the road. Could I have manifested it?

Most of my ideas come to me when I’m walking, running, and giving myself time to observe my surroundings and let my mind wander. I bring these ideas (and sometimes objects) back to my apartment, where I mainly work at my drawing table.

I plan to publish this newsletter every two weeks or so, featuring whatever I’m working on at the moment. This may include: drawings from my sketchbook, notes from my research, short comics, long comics, photos, illustrations, essays, and works in-progress. I still post artwork on Instagram, but this format allows me to document my progress, reflect on larger projects, and post all the messy behind-the-scenes sketches that don’t align perfectly on a grid.

I also began a zine subscription on this platform. My zines vary in size, format, media, and content, so if you like surprises and getting mail, for $50/ year or $5/month, I will send you a zine every two months.

A free subscription gives you access to all of my digital content. You can also see more of my work on my website: www.saraheshaw.com

Thanks for stopping by.
